Antagonist (Gn-RH antagonist)
This is a medicine already on sale and used in 23 countries in Europe and the United States, and on therapeutic trial (clinical trial) in Japan.
| ■What is a Gn-RH antagonist? |
In IVF, we start giving injections of gonadotropic hormones (GTH) everyday from the start of the menstrual cycle to get as many oocytes as possible. Growth of multiple follicles can make LH (luteinizing hormone) levels increase (LH is the hormone from the pituitary gland that gives the order to “ovulate!” ) and may cause premature ovulation. We cannot collect eggs if they have already been ovulated. GnRH antagonists canblock the order to “ovulate!” (control luteinizing hormone).
Some might think “But medicines to take control ovulating should be on sale already”. Nowadays using nose drops like suprecure called Gn-RH agonist control ovulate. But nose drops bothered need to used several times in everyday (4 times a day in our clinic). Whereas GnRH antagonist only need to be taken for a short period of time(about 5 days) and only 1 injection a day.
| ■Advantage of using Gn-RH antagonist |
There are no symptoms like feeling hot or dizzy not like suprecure, Besides, it is possible that you willneed lower doses of follicle stimulating than with suprecure, so it also has potential economical advantages. Furthermorre it is expected that has possibility of higher ovum quality than by suprecure to grow because antagonist control LH (luteinizing hormone).
| ■How availability or safety? |
Controlled trials have been carried out with suprecure, but there was no statistically significant differences in numbers of ovulations, acquisition rates of effective embryos, implantation rates, pregnancy rates,or miscarriage rates. But as above, considering about lighten the load of treatments even effects are the same, it is said that using Gn-RH antagonist will exceed Gn-RH agonist like suprecure in the future. About safety, it is possible that with GnRH antagonist usage you will have symptoms such as some pain or itching, red swelling, but these will recover within a day or two without any treatments.
