Can I have a baby even if my husband has azoospermia? |
|
There may be sperm in his testicle in cases of obstructive azoospermia. It is then possible to achieve pregnancy using ICSI after retrieving sperm from his testicle. In case of nonobstructive azoospermia, it might be possible to achieve pregnancy if we find sperm when we examine small testicular biopsies under the microscope. We carry out both of these testicular procedures at our clinic.

|
Some treatments requirepreparation in your preceeding cycle prior to carrying out the egg retrieval for IVF, so it often takes about one or two months to progress to the egg@retrieval and embryo transfer after making a schedule. Also you will have informed consent before the treatment (detailed explanation of IVF).

How long will it take to have IVF? |
|
It is only a short wait for injection during the schedule of IVF. But it may take several hours for ultrasound and blood tests, because it takes an hour to analyse the samples.
You can go home in the day of egg retrieval, but it takes the whole morning because we will be using general anesthesia. (It only takes 15 to 20 minutes to make the egg retrieval)
It may take several hours to do the embryo transfer which is usually done in the afternoon although there are individual differences. (It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to have embryo transfer)

What kind of exams will I need for IVF? |

We need to do sufficient exams to obtainthe high rates of pregnancy by IVF. The most common exams are ultrasound, semen exam, and blood tests.

Whether you get pregnant or not depends upon many things including the function of your ovaries. The average pregnancy rate is about 50% , although the rates of pregnancy change depending on the cause of infertility. Unfortunately not all patients will get pregnant at the first time. The key to success is to have faith that you will become a mother and just go for it.

What is natural cycle IVF? |
|
In natural cycle IVF, we collect eggs at the time of natural ovulation without stimulating at all. So it lightens the load on the body. However, the rate of pregnancy is lower than for general IVF because we can get only one or two eggs in this way. This is used mainly for patients with ovarian dysfunction where we can get only one or two eggs, or for elderly patients.

How many days will I have to visit the clinic for IVF? |
|
You need to visit us everyday from the third day of menstruation, 2 to 4 times for ultrasound exam, and on the day of egg collection and embryo transfer during a schedule of IVF. If you receive injections at a clinic nearer your house you will , need to visit us on at least four or five days including egg collection and embryo transfer at least. We also have our gMinimum Stay IVFh system for the out of town patients. If you hope to use this system, please tell us at the first appointment.

How long should I try to relax after embryo transfer? |
|
It needs 4 or 5 days rest at least after embryo transfer in order to facilitate implantation of the embryo. But for the best chance of pregnancy, it is better to be overprotective and avoid doing housework until after the pregnancy tset.

It is possible, but the cooperation of your office is needed for the time you will need to receive your injections and so on. And you will have to have days-off for egg collection or embryo transfer.

|
It is generally said that IVM-IVF is effective for patients with polycystic ovaries. We might choose this method which involves no stimulation because the patient has a high risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

What is IVM-IVF? |
|
IVM-IVF involves removing immature oocytes from small follicles (7 to 9mm) maturing them in, and special culture media. The mature eggs then have the ability to fertilize. We then replace the dividing embryos into the uterus as normal. This method does not require the injection of gonadotropins in many cases, so this is best for the patient with polycystic ovary syndrom (PCOS) or for those who have experienced the onset of OHSS before. Besides, therefs no need to have pain or visiting for taking injection because we generally donft give the injection for stimulation of ovary.
We can achieve high rates of pregnancy using this method and since the delivery of the first child in Japan at our clinic using this method, many healthy babies have been born by IVM-IVF.
